Engineer Picks! Week of 10/30 - 11/5

Welcome to this week's edition of Engineer Picks!, a weekly rundown of what engineers at CU Records are listening to.

This week is global and quite fun.

First up is Follow You by Kornél Kovács featuring Aluna

The Swedish house producer is somewhat of a child prodigy in is home country, which is probably why he was able to work with Aluna (of the former AlunaGeroge). He opens up the track with som luscious synths, before Aluna’s vocals are layered on top. The minimalism of the track is calming yet energizing at the same time.

Next we turn to Totalimmortal by AFI

The American rock band is engaging right off the bat with their electric guitar and invigorating drums. The track comes off of their 1999 EP All Hallows. Despite being released on January 1, it works as a Halloween jam.

We take a dip into salsa with Oh Qué Será by Willie Colón

The song is in fact a cover of Chico Braque’s 1976 jazz original. But as one of the icons of salsa, Colón does not disappoint in this track. His version includes more upbeat piano and strings in line with his Puerto Rican background.

Finally we jump to Chile with nasty by Princess Alba featuring Ms Nina

The Chilean artist Princess Alba fuses synth pop and trap with the help of Argentinean producer Nico Cotton. Ms Nina adds her own flare of neoperreo, a subgenera of reggaeton. The drum kick is sure to keep you hooked the entire track.
